Clean, Oil, and Adjust (COA)

A clean, oil, and adjust should be performed on your flute at least once a year. This maintains your flute in top playing condition and avoids mechanical failtures at times lesst expected.

A clean, oil, and adjust involves the following:

- Disassembly of entire flute

- Body is cleaned and degreased

- All key mechanisms are disassembled

- Pads are cleaned and inspected for possible replacement

- Old oil is removed from the rods and hinge tubes

- Any loose fitting keys are tightened

- New oil is applied to the rods and hinge tubes

- Any loose felt/corks are replaced

- Flute is reassembled, checking all pads for optimum sealing

- Flute is adjusted and play tested

Mechanical Restoration

An overhaul is different from a COA in that it involves a comptete restoration of the instrument.

An overhaul consists of the following:

- Disassembly of entire flute

- Body and keys are cleaned ultrasonically and polished by hand

- All key mechanisms are disassembled

- Any loose fitting keys are tightened

- Old oil is removed from the rods and hinge tubes

- New oil is applied to the rods and hinge tubes

- Pads/felts/corks are replaced

- Flute is reassembled, checking all pads for optimum sealing

- Flute is adjusted and play tested
